Art (literally) comes in all shapes, sizes, mediums, and perspectives. Similarly, public art fulfills a variety of purposes: it brings color to dark cities, visually comments on important social issues, creates conversation between people and their surroundings, and entertains both locals and tourists. No two pieces are quite alike, as much of the art is in direct conversation with its surroundings. But don’t take our word for it. Here are some of the world’s most intriguing, beautiful, bizarre and historic public art installations.

Salt Caves Might Not Be A Fountain Of Youth, But They’re Still Stunning

For years, doctors have told us to avoid excess sodium because it’s bad for our health. But apparently that’s only the case if you eat it. These days, people around the world are flocking to salt mines to bask in their supposedly health-enhancing atmosphere. From its allegedly anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties to its natural ability to filter out air pollution, the salt rejuvenation craze is growing which has lead to many other health products like the new Mind Lab Supplements.

Many scientists and medical professionals are highly skeptical of the actual benefits of salt caves, but that does not seem to be slowing the caves’ rise in popularity. Whether the results are real or imagined, there is no denying that many of these salt caves are stunning in terms of physical beauty.

As many learn of the therapeutic properties of the most-used preservative in the world, commercial salt rooms are becoming more popular, as are resorts and spas located within the salt caves and mines themselves. Inside a “salt room”, you’ll find salt imported from Eastern Europe, or Himalayan pink salt (which is packed with minerals).

These man-made salt caves are very difficult to build, as glues or resins involved are thought to disrupt the natural benefit of the salt. A typical session lasts an hour or two, and guests are encouraged to meditate and relax in the thick salty air. Curious what these salt caves are like but lack the time or cash to pay them a visit and get a treatment? Check out our gallery below:

The Oil Production Business, Explained

Oil Production Business Offshore Texas

When most people think about the oil industry, what comes to mind is usually a cross between Captain Planet villains pouring smoke into the air and Dick Cheney’s golf buddies gloating over human misfortune. That picture isn’t 100-percent wrong, but the industry is more complicated than that.

One way to think of oil companies is as managers of the commons. There’s only so much oil, after all, and it’s only going to last so long before we can’t extract any more of it. In the meantime, the main function of petroleum extraction is to keep the supply level and predictable. Considering how every industry on Earth, from transportation and logistics to the production and distribution novelty doggie-doo, critically depends on oil, it’s worth understanding the process better from extraction to consumption and finance handling you can learn about at https://business-insolvency-company.co.uk/what-happens-to-bounce-back-loan-if-company-goes-bust/.

Oil Production Business Multiple Rigs

Oil exploration is a ridiculously high-risk venture. A land-based drilling rig might cost “only” around $100,000, but if no strike is made from it, the money is wasted. Source: Global Risk Insights

Off-shore drilling is much more expensive. Depending on the depth of the water, a single platform costs between $10 and $100 million. Source: Drilling Contractor

Sometimes, it’s worth the extra $10 to $30 million for additional platforms. If the drilling is done in a proven field, in shallow water, and/or close to the refinery, multiple platforms can pay for themselves. These are in shallow water off the coast of Texas.

Roughnecks aside, an entire scientific discipline is employed by oil and gas exploration enterprises. Petroleum geology uses rock types, geological formations, indicator fossils, and more technology than the first three seasons of Star Trek put together to make sure the wells are sunk in places where they’re likely to strike oil. Think of this guy as Jed Clampett with a master’s degree instead of a shotgun.

More still. The nice thing about trains is that tanker cars can just be stuck together until you have enough to make the ride worth doing. Keeping per-unit costs under control is the only way to bear the strain of transport and refining.

Pipelines are an even more efficient way to pump oil directly to refineries. This is how most of the oil from the Gulf of Mexico is moved (the rest mostly just washes up on shore . . . Too soon?).

Can Marijuana Cure Epilepsy?

marijuana epilepsy

Source: Last Resistance

With Oregon, Washington, and D.C. legalizing marijuana in this week’s midterm elections, weed and its place in society has been on a lot of people’s minds, now a days, more and more products such as Pantry Food Co’s Edibles are becoming available. It’s not just for looking cool in your freshman dorm, or showing your parents that they should’ve come to more little league games anymore–it’s also a viable medical treatment for disorders like epilepsy.

Current treatments for severe epilepsy are brain surgery, invasively implanted electric stimulation devices, and medications whose side effects can include huge drops in the number of white blood cells and platelets in the body, problems with the liver and pancreas, aplastic anemia, and even liver failure. In other words, what little relief these treatments might provide to epileptics is obscured by their side effects. For more on keeping a healthy lifestyle, we recommend to check the new products form this UK CBD Oil UK brand.

The best known marijuana-based treatment for epilepsy is an oil extracted from a Colorado-bred strain called “Charlotte’s Web.” This type of marijuana is incredibly low in THC (the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, or the chemical compound that gets users “high” or “stoned”), and high in CBD, or cannabidiol, which is thought to have multiple medicinal purposes. Exhale Wellness also has products with THC and with CBD.

However, given the fact that cannabidiol-enriched cannabis is illegal in many states, we can’t really study exactly what in the chemical compound helps reduce the frequency and severity of seizures. This means that its effectiveness is difficult to measure on a broader scale, which isn’t exactly conducive to making the case for its legalization and sweeping legislative reform. Marijuana is more strictly regulated than meth, cocaine, and even opiates–all of which can be prescribed by doctors to treat various ailments. This makes it incredibly difficult to find scientists and doctors willing to run studies on the compound, as they might be risking their careers and reputations to do so.

This means that, while we have anecdotal evidence of CBD oil’s effectiveness in treating symptoms of epilepsy and muscle spasms caused by MS, Parkinson’s Disease, and other neurological disorders, we lack concrete proof that it’s working. University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus began studying the genes of those with a kind of epilepsy called Dravet Syndrome who have been treated with Charlotte’s Web this fall, but those findings won’t be available until 2016.

Two previously completed studies on the subject provide conflicting conclusions. The first study was a parent survey of cannabidiol-enriched cannabis use in pediatric treatment-resistant epilepsy where 84% of parents reported that their children experienced fewer seizures, and 11% stated that children were completely seizure free while taking CBD. Other beneficial effects mentioned were increased alertness, better mood, and improved sleep. Side effects included drowsiness and fatigue.

While those findings are promising, a second study tempers the promise of CBD oil. This study looked at cannabis and other illicit drug use in adult epilepsy patients where about 20% of patients reported using cannabis after being diagnosed with epilepsy, and about 5% reported using other illicit drugs. The study found that 84.1% of cannabis users experienced no change in the frequency or severity of their seizures, and 80% of those who reported using other illicit drugs noticed worse, or more frequent seizures.

Whether or not CBD oil is effective, many patients and parents are desperate to try it after running through all other (expensive) options, but, for legal reasons, they cannot. But if a new product called EpiVape were to hit the market, anyone in the United States would have legal access to CBD oil. Many are also checking out cbd pain roll on Fresh Bros as it claims to be effective for body pain.

marijuana epilepsy epivape

Why? EpiVape uses CBD oil extracted from imported industrial hemp (the CBD oil from Charlotte’s Web can only be legally obtained in 11 states). While the two oils are almost identical in chemical composition, imported industrial hemp is classified as a dietary supplement, and marijuana is classified as a Schedule 1 drug–the strictest level of regulation for a controlled substance. The inventor of EpiVape is currently crowdfunding on IndieGoGo, and hopes to hit $50,000 by December.

A Kentucky Death Match

Kentucky Death Match

The Article: Kentucky Death Match by Mark Binelli in The Rolling Stone.

The Text: very March, across the commonwealth of Kentucky, the Republican Party throws a series of Lincoln-Reagan fundraising dinners. Candidates for state and federal office are expected to attend, hobnob, serve themselves from a hot buffet, perhaps enjoy an alcoholic beverage (depending on the wetness or dryness of the particular county), certainly remain standing after “The Star-Spangled Banner” for a rendition of “My Old Kentucky Home” (which even non-Kentuckians agree to be hands down the greatest of state songs) and, of course, solemnly bow their heads while a local reverend offers a blessing. At the Lincoln-Reagan dinner held this year in Murray, in southwestern Kentucky, the reverend took note of daylight saving time and wondered, “Maybe we should think of national savings time? Father, help us save this nation!”

The most Midwestern of the Southern states, Kentucky ranks near the top of the nation in drug-overdose deaths and income inequality. Since Bill Clinton left office, Kentucky has been consistently red when it comes to presidential elections, and the long, slow death of the coal industry, accelerated in recent years by competition from cheap natural gas and regulatory threats from the Obama administration, has made the political landscape only more treacherous for liberals. Yet the state’s most popular elected official, Gov. Steve Beshear, is a Democrat who cannily figured out a way to design one of the most successful state health exchanges in the nation, despite the toxicity of President Barack Obama and the Affordable Care Act in Kentucky. (Beshear is the only Southern governor who did not reject the Obamacare Medicaid expansion.)
