Skyy John May Be The Most Influential Bartender In America

Is there a set process to getting on the show? Does reaching out to you directly help?

SJ: I have actually had girls reach out to me and I have put them on the show. It depends on who you are and if I like the energy. Most recently a lot of the Tipsy girls have been chosen by meeting people through friends I already had established.

Does having a big social media following play a factor in being picked as a Tipsy Girl?

Those things are good, but I don’t request the girls to share the episodes on their social media networks. If they do that’s cool but if not that’s fine as well. The show has built a strong base on its own so it’s no pressure on them to do that if they wish not to share.

See if you have 10 million followers that doesn’t lock you in on the show for multiple episodes. It’s all about the energy the girl and I create. If people don’t enjoy seeing that girl on the show and we don’t interact well it doesn’t help the show and brand.

How important is relatabilitiy to your brand

SJ: Its super important to me. See our thing is making drinks for the regular person. I mean if you want some high end, shaken not stirred martini I’m not your guy. James Bond doesn’t watch my channel. We make drinks for the masses. If you are having a bunch of friends over, and you want to get tipsy for the night I am your guy. If you want some high-end, hand crafted, basil infused drink with ice from Mount Everest I’m not your guy. Probably takes like 45 minutes to make those drinks anyway and by the time I get them I’m either aggravated or sleepy. My forte is to party.

Shoot me a couple of your favorite episodes.

SJ: Rainbow shot was defining episode for the channel. One of the vlogs for Tipsy bartender I put the machete in my leg. For some reason I thought cutting fruit with a machete would be cool. I was playing with the machete and cut myself.

You guys have had amazing success across the board as you have over 4 million likes on Facebook. You also recently hit 1 million subscribers or YouTube.

SJ: Hitting a million subscribers meant a lot to me. Most companies hit a mark like that and party amongst their friends, but in reality its mostly people who don’t know you who are really locked in to your brand. I did take the girls out to dinner but I spent the majority of the night getting drinks with the fans. We almost ran up a 1,500 tab that night at the bar. Money well spent though.

How do you gauge success?

SJ: Well each day we set new goals. I am looking to make our own branded liquor. It’s important to me because we haven’t seen someone like myself drive a liquor company.
